In India, 46% of children are malnourished, as reflected in a low weight and height. Malnourishment is a result of the lack of means, of information and poor hygienic and health conditions (such as consumption of contaminated water or transmission of parasites).
The after-effects of malnutrition are serious and irreversible and go beyond a low physical height. A poor and unbalanced diet limits the child’s brain development for the rest of their adult life and leads to a higher rate of disease.
From the last quarter of 2010, our beneficiary children will be offered a daily lunch or snack to complement their diet, in order to ensure a balanced growth and to control the malnourishment that many of these children suffer.
In India, access to healthcare is prohibitive for the families who live under the poverty threshold. That is why Seed for Change is planning to establish collaboration agreements with healthcare organizations in order to carry out vaccination campaigns and medical check-ups.
Additionally, a group of mothers will be trained about hygiene, nutrition, mother-child care and illness prevention, because improvements in health and nutrition start with hygiene and habits in the family.
